Prof Usha Sharma is currently associated with NCERT, New Delhi as Professor. She is also the Incharge of National Literacy Center Cell, NCERT and Coordinator for Program for Promotion of Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN), NCERT, New Delhi.

She is the academic editor of the journal 'Primary Teacher' and member of the editorial board of the journal 'Indian Modern Education' published by NCERT.

As an academician, her areas of expertise are language education, psycholinguistics, Early Childhood Care and Education, elementary education, value based education and audio-visual learning. She also holds a position of executive editor of children’s magazine ‘Firkee Bachchon Ki’ published by NCERT, New Delhi.

She has also been actively contributing in the development of syllabus and textbooks of Hindi, Urdu, EVS and Mathematics for various classes, source books on assessment (Hindi), monitoring tools on early literacy, various reading materials on early literacy, training package for ‘Shikshakarmi’ under Sarv Shiksha Abhiyan (Rajasthan), in-service training manual for primary and upper-primary teachers, training package on Competency based material under PEEP, SCERT Delhi, posters on early literacy etc.

She has been actively associated with some very popular magazines for children such as Firkee Bachchon Ki, Arkaja, Sampreshika and Vivarnika.

Prof Usha has also developed Learner Specific Material for Street and Working Children on the behalf of NCERT, New Delhi.

Along with the above highly accredited works, she has also participated in National Achievement Survey conducted by NCERT, New Delhi.

Prof Usha has contributed in unit writing for study material of NCERT and B.Ed program of various universities such as Indira Gandhi National Open University and Allahabad University.
